Valve has been known to make phenomenal games and Portal's hit sequel, Portal 2, is no exception. I would say 10+ for the harder levels maybe, but probably younger would be fine with the less harder levels. For the gameplay style, it is a puzzle game that has some pretty challenging levels! But it is really fun. For swearing, there is the occasional “damn”, “hell”, nothing “bAd”. GLaDOS and Wheatley have dark quotes too. There are violent remarks, like the combustible lemons rant, but that is just dark humor. There are “Chapters” of the game that you go through, with “test-chambers.” The “violence” I’d say is the turrets and neurotoxin, but it isn’t that bad. You meet the “core” Wheatley, and he guides you around for a short bit and helps you find GLaDOS again.
In the game, you play as Chell, a silent protagonist from the 1st game. Portal 2 is a bit darker in terms of story, with GLaDOS. With ratman’s writing on the walls (THE CAKE IS A LIE), GLaDOS’s quotes, but it isn’t that bad. Portal 1 is pretty dark, but not too dark. I’ve loved the portal series for ages! Valve is an amazing developer, but their games aren’t usually for younger children. It also has two good songs at the end (Want You Gone, Cara Mia Addio) but there are some things you would want to know before getting it for your child. It has good humor,a good gameplay style, and amazing characters.
In my opinion, portal 2 is one of the best games made.
